PRESS RELEASE:
Unlocking Potential: The Vital Role of Comprehensive Resources in Student Success
Education is the cornerstone of personal and societal progress, yet many students across the United States face significant barriers that hinder their ability to thrive. With only 33% of U.S. high school students feeling engaged in their education ( Gallup, 2022 ), and the U.S. ranking 13th globally in educational outcomes ( PISA, 2018 ), it is clear that transformative action is required. Engagement often declines due to factors like lack of hands-on learning opportunities, outdated curricula, and inadequate access to technology, especially in underserved schools. Globally, top-performing countries like Finland and Singapore excel by prioritizing equity, teacher training, and holistic education approaches that foster both academic excellence and real-world skills. To unlock the full potential of every student, we must invest in every available resource to ensure equitable opportunities for excellence.
The Current Landscape
1. Engagement and Academic Performance:
- According to the Gallup Student Poll, student engagement drops significantly as children progress from elementary to high school, with a sharp decline beginning in middle school.
- In 2022, U.S. students ranked behind countries like Finland, Singapore, and South Korea in reading, math, and science literacy, according to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
2. The Equity Gap:
- Schools in underserved communities often lack access to essential resources like advanced courses, technology, and extracurricular activities. Programs such as "Computer Science for All" have demonstrated how targeted initiatives can bridge this gap by providing coding and STEM resources to low-income schools. For example, the program’s partnership with New York City Public Schools resulted in a 30% increase in the number of students from underrepresented communities enrolling in advanced computer science courses, setting a foundation for careers in technology. Similarly, the "21st Century Community Learning Centers" program offers after-school enrichment activities, including tutoring and arts education, significantly improving student outcomes in these areas. For instance, schools participating in the program have reported a 15% increase in student attendance and a 10% improvement in math and reading scores, highlighting its measurable impact on academic success.
- A 2021 study by the National Center for Education Statistics found that nearly 30% of schools serving low-income students lacked high-speed internet , compared to only 6% of schools in wealthier areas.
3. Beyond the Basics:
- Private schools often provide advanced language programs, leadership training, and mentorship opportunities that are not widely available in public schools. These programs prepare students not just for academic success but for leadership roles in society.
Why Every Resource Matters
To bridge the gap and foster excellence, we must focus on three key areas:
1. Holistic Development:
- Studies show that students exposed to comprehensive curricula that include fine arts, physical education, and life skills perform better academically and emotionally. For example, schools with robust arts programs see a 20% higher graduation rate (Arts Education Partnership, 2020).
- Life skills like financial literacy, digital competence, and civic engagement prepare students for the real world. Students who participate in financial literacy courses are 25% more likely to save for college and avoid debt pitfalls.
2. Equity in Access:
- Providing access to advanced STEM programs, mentorship opportunities, and extracurricular activities for all students, regardless of their zip code, could increase college enrollment rates by 40% in underserved areas (Education Trust, 2021). Advanced STEM programs expose students to high-demand fields, equipping them with critical skills like problem-solving and innovation. Mentorship opportunities provide guidance and encouragement, particularly for first-generation college students, helping them navigate academic and career pathways with confidence.
- Equipping every classroom with modern technology and high-speed internet ensures no child is left behind in the digital age.
3. Real-World Preparedness:
- Programs that integrate real-world problem-solving, internships, and project-based learning foster critical thinking and innovation. For example, the "Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools" (P-TECH) program combines high school, college courses, and internships with industry partners. Students graduate with both a diploma and an associate degree, significantly improving their employability and academic outcomes. High schools that incorporate internships see a 30% increase in students pursuing STEM fields (National Science Foundation, 2019).
A Vision for the Future
Imagine a school system where every student has:
- Access to advanced courses and state-of-the-art technology.
- Opportunities for mentorship, leadership training, and hands-on learning.
- A balanced curriculum that includes arts, physical education, and life skills.
This vision is not a distant dream—it is a necessity. By reallocating resources, fostering public-private partnerships, and prioritizing equity, we can create a system where every student has the tools they need to excel.
Engaging Stakeholders
To truly understand the challenges and opportunities in our education system, it is vital to ask parents and teachers: Are you satisfied with the current education system? What changes would you prioritize to ensure students thrive academically and personally? These perspectives can provide invaluable insights into how policies impact the daily lives of students and educators.
A Tale of Two Futures
To inspire meaningful action, let us visualize two contrasting futures for education:
The Present:
- Engagement: Only 33% of U.S. high school students feel engaged in their education.
- Access: Many underserved schools lack essential resources like technology, advanced courses, and extracurricular programs.
- Outcomes: The U.S. ranks 13th globally in educational outcomes , with declining student satisfaction and readiness for modern careers.
The Future We Can Create:
- Engagement: Students actively engaged through hands-on learning, mentorship, and life skills education.
- Access: Every school equipped with advanced technology, arts programs, and robust STEM opportunities.
- Outcomes: The U.S. leading globally in innovation and educational excellence, with graduates ready to contribute meaningfully to society and the economy.
By showing the stark difference between what is and what can be, we underscore the urgency of investing in transformative changes.
A Challenge to Prioritize Education
To ensure we move beyond the status quo and implement meaningful changes, I will create a dedicated Task Force as part of our 2028 Presidential Campaign to gather the necessary information and build a comprehensive strategy for reform. This Task Force will:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of current educational models, including international best practices.
- Engage stakeholders such as parents, teachers, and community leaders to understand the challenges and opportunities.
- Develop actionable recommendations for implementing a balanced, equitable, and forward-thinking educational system.
This initiative will be outlined in an Executive Order, ensuring transparency, public participation, and accountability in transforming our education system.

Despite the clear benefits of investing in education, transformative changes remain elusive. This raises important questions: Why isn’t education reform a top priority for our leaders? Do they feel it is not important enough, or are they more focused on maintaining the status quo? As citizens, we have the power to demand that education be treated as a national priority.
A Call to Action
It is time for bold action. Policymakers, educators, parents, and communities must unite to ensure that every school—regardless of location or funding—provides the resources students need to succeed. Investing in education is not just a moral imperative; it is an economic necessity. Studies show that for every dollar spent on education, the economy sees a $4 to $5 return ( OECD, 2020 ) through increased productivity, higher earnings, and reduced social costs. These returns are realized in sectors such as technology, healthcare, and manufacturing, where a skilled workforce drives innovation and efficiency. Additionally, education investments lead to reduced crime rates and healthcare costs, benefiting communities across diverse demographics. Graduates with better educational opportunities contribute to the economy through higher tax revenues, lower unemployment rates, and decreased reliance on social welfare programs (OECD, 2020).
Together, we can build a future where no child’s potential is left untapped. The time to act is now. Let us commit to providing every resource available for our students to excel and secure a brighter future for all.
